The AFC Unity Football for Food campaign began in 2015. It involves AFC Unity as a club encouraging players, management, supporters, opposition teams and the general public to make donations of food to local food banks. The campaign also raises awareness of the extent of food poverty and the reasons for increased food bank use. This not only helps to increase donations but also tackles misconceptions and stigma related to food bank use.
In 2019 AFC Unity’s Football for Food Project won the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA’s Grassroots Project of the Year Award.
AFC Unity collected 1193 kilograms of food at 39 events before counting donations as items. In 2019-2020 AFC Unity donated 1266 items and over £600 to S2 Food bank in Sheffield.
